JourneyToGEC2017 Challenge – South Africa

Saturday August 12th, 2017

The Global Entrepreneurship Congress – GEC gathers together thousands of entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policymakers and other startup champions from more than 160 countries to identify new ways of helping founders start and scale new ventures around the world. Entrepreneurs make connections, gain insights, learn about new research, and leave ready to renew their programs, policy ideas or firm founder skills through this open conference that gathers all elements of the global entrepreneurial ecosystem.

In order to give young Mozambican entrepreneurs the opportunity to participate in GEC2017 in South Africa, ideiaLab developed on Facebook the challenge #ACaminhoDoGEC2017, event sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Low Countries in Maputo under the Orange Corners Maputo.

With the campaign, 22 agents of the Mozambican entrepreneurial ecosystem (16 entrepreneurs and 6 facilitators of the entrepreneurial ecosystem) were selected. The registration process took place from February 20th to 27th  and we received 78 applications.

Experience #ACaminhoDoGEC2017 began with a trip to GEC2017 in South Africa that began on the 13th and ended on 17 March.

It was an incredible experience. During the trip, they had the opportunity to receive the Mentorship of the idea to improve their business, attended a Networking event co-organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Low Countries in Pretoria and visited the Orange Corners in Dieplsoot and Maboneng.

They all liked to make connections between entrepreneurs at all Orange Corners in Johannesburg and would like the Orange Corners in Mozambique to have the same dynamics and be an African reference in incubating startups.
